I was at an impasse with my scrapbooking; my 12×12 scrapbooks were unwieldy and my daughters could not store them in their dorm rooms or small apartments. I happened upon an article by Lisa Moorefield, and it blew my mind. She went through all her supplies, kept only what she loved, and began to scrapbook in the 8×8 size. I was hooked, It does take a bit of work to resize sketches, photos, and placements, but once you get into the groove of this size, it can be addictive. This smaller size page is easier to fill, paper goes a lot further, and the same design concepts used for 12×12 layouts apply to this smaller size. The albums are much easier to store, and they are the perfect size for my grandchildren’s hands.
Let’s start with photos. I use the Print to Size App; it’s easy to use and fairly intuitive. There are other apps that can be used to resize photos, and I would love for others to chime in with their favorites. 4×4 photos work well as as 2x3s
Here are some examples of three of my 8×8 layouts using using a couple of photos of varying sizes, it can be done!
Speaking of layouts, I have a sweet little cheat sheet for you, a 12×12 to 8×8 conversion chart. This is incredibly helpful when I’m using sketches.
Here are a couple more 8×8 layouts and a photo of my granddaughter thumbing through one of her albums. No this was not staged ha ha, my daughter sent this to me recently and it made me feel like a million bucks. This is why I love memory keeping, these albums are my love letters to my grandchildren. In a future post I will break down some 12×12 sketches and turn them into 8×8 layouts Happy Scrapping!
